From War to Windrush Photographic and Art Exhibition

Loading Events
  • This event has passed.

Photographic exhibition crediting the hugely forgotten and untold history of the thousands of men and women from the Caribbean, who volunteered and fought with Britain against fascism and Nazi Germany in World War Two.

These men and women bravely and unselfishly took up service in the armed forces for Britain, which they regarded as their ‘Mother Country’ out of loyalty and with a sense of belonging.

This exhibition is taking place in the 75th anniversary year of the D-Day landings in Normandy, which signaled the tide of change in the war and ultimate victory to Britain and her allies.  Notwithstanding their sacrifices of these Caribbean men and women and their contribution to the vicitory, they have not been largely ignored among the British, American and French ceremonies in world events to mark the day.

In this photographic event taking place at this time, we honour these patriots for their contributions and sacrifices and remember the African proverb, ‘until lion have their own historians, the history of hunt will always glorify the hunter’.

From War to Windrush is their story.
