Millennium Challenge Corporation Statement from MCC CEO Daniel W. Yohannes on the Inauguration of Malawi's New President:

The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) extends our condolences to Callista Mutharika, the Mutharika family and the Malawian people as they mourn the sudden passing of President Bingu wa Mutharika.

In the days that followed, the world witnessed the peaceful constitutional transition of power to President Joyce Banda. MCC applauds the constitutional transition of power and congratulates the Malawian people for this important step forward for democracy in their country and in Africa.

MCC maintains compact partnerships with countries that demonstrate a clear commitment to good governance, economic freedom and investing in their citizens. We extend President Banda and the Government of Malawi our best wishes as they address the country's significant challenges and opportunities, including those that led to the suspension of its MCC compact in March.
