Labour re-launches the Black Socialist Society Hot

A joint meeting of the Labour Party National Executive Committee and ethnic minority Party members yesterday agreed on a timetable for the re-launch of Labour's Black Socialist Society (BSS). The BSS's objectives include; to work to achieve the support of and to recruit members of the party from Black, Asian and other Ethnic minorities and to work with other organisations to eliminate racism and discrimination in all its forms across the UK and worldwide.



An internal election timetable has been set and once completed on the 10 March 2007 the BSS will take its place as a fully affiliated socialist society. Mike Griffiths, Chair of the NEC, said today:

"This is an important step forward which will formalise the work and progress of the BSS as a fully affiliated socialist society to the Labour Party and allow Ethnic minority voices to be heard at every level of the Labour Party.

"This will build on the already extraordinary achievements of the Labour Party in our links with and promotion of Black, Asian and Ethnic minority interests, candidates and political representation and we welcome the partnership with the BSS.

"I would like to encourage as many members of Black, Asian or other Ethnic minority groups both Labour Party members and supporters, to join the BSS and have their say in this important socialist society."
