A 10 day festival of celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Jamaican Independence and Jamaican athlete participation at London 2012 Olympic Games. Taking place in Victoria Square - Birmingham B1 1BD Date has changed to:  2 Aug 2012 to 6 Aug 2012.

Located in the heart of Birmingham this festival is attracting lovers of Jamaican Culture from all over. The 10 day event will celebrate the wonderful Jamaican culture in all it's glory, from music to food, history to shopping, you name it will be there and of course people from all over the world will be sharing in this experience.

 

There will be several Zone Attractions.

 

  • Fashion Show
  • Food Stalls
  • Craft Market
  • Artist Stage
  • Cookery
  • Reggae Lounge Bar

 

FASHION SHOW

Birmingham has established itself as one of the style capitals
Numerous department stores, cutting edge high street fashion and independent boutiques
Caribbean and black culture regularly inspires main stream fashion
The city is influenced by evolving urban style
From typical Rastafarian colours to outrageous Dancehall styles
Golden showcase
Opportunity for designers to reveal their latest creations

 

FOOD STALLS
Tempting aromas will greet visitors as they enter the Square
Selection of stalls promoting Jamaican food
Located around:
Victoria Square
Upper New Street
Food will include
Jerk chicken
Curried goat
Rice and peas
Inclusion of a mini ‘Jerk Fest’

 

CRAFT MARKET

Located in the heart of Jamaica in the Square
Crafted by local Jamaicans
Goods imported from all over the Caribbean by local traders
Huge range of locally hand-crafted items
Decorative ironwork
Wood carvings
Handbags
Toys
Musical instruments
Opportunities for ethnic handicrafts from Africa, India and South America
Unique shopping experience
Replication of a small, bustling Jamaican village within the heart of the city centre

 

STAGE ZONE

Located in Chamberlain Square
Close to outside bar area
Focal point of the festival
Provides a meeting place for visitors
Natural amphitheatre to complement the main stage
Live music and entertainment
Lunchtimes – 12-2pm
Evenings – 5-7pm
Entertainment will consist of:
Musicians
Drummers
Poets
Dancehall DJ’s
Dancers
Fashion Show

 

COOKERY

Local chefs
Celebrity chef demonstrations
Live food demonstrations
Chefs will prepare a selection of simple dishes
Located in Upper New Street
Cook-off
Given Jamaican produce
30 mins to prepare their best dish
Hosted by a well known personality
Audience participation
Public will vote for the winner
Restaurants and companies can sell their products
Youth Cookery Classes (under 18)

 

REGGAE LOUNGE

Located in Victoria Square
Will sell Jamaican drinks and alcohol including beer and rum
Established within a large marquee
Comfortable seating for a relaxed environment
External seating area
Additional punch bar
Rum and various mixers
Guinness punch
Non-alcoholic fruit punches
Soursop juice
Fresh fruit juices
Reggae music played throughout
Pre-records
Live DJ’s
Open Mic (Poetry and songs)
Relaxed, chilled-out atmosphere

 

BIG SCREEN ADVERTISING

Controlled Arena
Located in Event Prominent Spot Adjacent to LOCOG and JITS Sites
Visible to all event visitors
Size – 15m x 15m
