There are approximately three-quarters of a million Caribbean people/descendants living in Britain but there are few Caribbean programmes on British television and the community has no TV station.  In contrast, for example, the African community has a similarly sized population but has six TV stations in Britain successfully reflecting, engaging and promoting the various African cultures 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Many of you will have views about this situation for Caribbean people, whether it matters to us, ought it to be changed and, if so, how and to what.

 For example :

  -  would we benefit from having programmes from “back home” shown here where we live in Britain ?

  -  would that strengthen our knowledge and ties to our grandparents’ homelands ?

  -  would that help to benefit our children, give them greater self-identity and make them stronger and more successful in this society ?

Launched on MayDay (1 May) 2012, the first ever British Caribbean Television Survey is aimed primarily at the Caribbean community in Britain to assess views, attitudes and interest in films, TV shows and other programmes from the Caribbean that could be broadcast in Britain.

Express your views about whether/what Caribbean programmes should be on TV.

Completing the survey should take you less than 10 minutes and it is available here (http://sankofa-tv.co.uk/index.php/survey) on the newly upgraded Sankofa Televisual website.

The results will be published on the website (and via Twitter and Facebook) periodically as they come in and will, hopefully, be used to influence future broadcasting decisions.  Who knows what those decisions might be but, as the saying goes, if we don’t articulate our collective voice then we can’t expect to receive

If you need a PDF version of the survey then let us know (info@sankofa-tv.co.uk)

To get the latest updates on television and other issues from the Caribbean then please follow us on Twitter (@Sankofa_TV) and like us on Facebook (SankofaTelevisual) or check the website (www.sankofa-tv.co.uk) regularly.

Thanks for your support for our community and please forward this to all your family, friends and contacts.
