TEST LAKE OF STARS FESTIVAL PRESENTS…
AFRICA UNSIGNED UK LAUNCH
Sunday 15th May 2011 from 12noon at Bethnal Green’s Rich Mix listen to live soulful tunes from the amazing Rina Mushonga from Zimbabwe by way of Holland and India as she headlines Market Club’s Africa Unsigned launch collaboration.
Market Club is a free music, art and Olympic sports event for the leading East London Arts Centre that will brighten up your Sunday afternoon. The May event is set to be the best yet; collaborating with Africa Unsigned for their UK launch. 16th May 2011 sees the official UK launch of a completely revamped AfricaUnsigned.com linking African music directly to its UK fans.
The website catapults African Music to a new level of exposure and leverages artist / fan relationships by helping unsigned African artists to record music funded by fans. With this launch, UK based African artists can now be considered for "crowd funding" by their fans to help develop their careers. They are invited to drop by on the 15th of May to give their demo to Africa Unsigned. Final selection of artists to be featured on the platform is done by their Music Panel consisting of household names like Damon Albarn, Tony Allen & Baaba Mal. An exciting competition for these selected artists will be announced on the day.
Live music comes from the brilliant Rina Mushonga plus laid back Sunday sets from 2010 Lake of Stars headliners Noisettes, 2009 festival DJ Tayo and The Young Offenders Institute DJ’s. As well as tunes from Africa Unsigned’s very own Dirty D.is.ko.
Market Club launched in February with over 1000 people passing through every month. Many ping pong balls have been lost, games and prizes were won, there have been some great DJ sets from the likes of Joe Goddard (Hot Chip), Goldierocks, Ali B, Ross Allen, Dom Chung and live music for your Sunday afternoon from Embers, Scubaroots, Benin City, festival favourite Nick Mulvey and many more.
Sundays in East London are alive from Brick Lane, Spitalfields and Columbia Rd markets – get indoors for the Market Club’s unique blend of art, music and Olympic sport.
They have also got newspapers and board games if you just want to sit down, relax and enjoy our food and drink offers at the newly re-furnished Rich Mix bar. If you are feeling active you can take part in our cycle challenge or book a local tour of the world’s finest street art.
