TEST The Iri-ji (New Yam) festival has been described as the “culmination of a work cycle and the beginning of another.” It is a time of thanksgiving to God for making the farm yields possible and praying for good yields next planting season.
It is one of the most significant festivals amongst the Igbo tribe in Nigeria and is celebrated in all corners of the globe. On Saturday 16th October The Igbo Cultural Support Network (ICSN) cordially invites you to join in our Iri-Ji Festival celebrations as we mark Nigeria turning 50
On the night there will be;
- A traditional masquerade, Ohafia war dancers and special
performances from the internationally renowned dancers Adanta and
Egwu Ogaranya
- Up and coming comedians, singers and a short Iri-ji play performed
by members of ICSN
- A chance to sample the finest yam and rice dishes, as well as
delicacies such as isi-ewu and Abacha
- An auction to win return tickets kindly donated to us by Arik Air
- A prize for the best dressed male and female
- An after party until the early hours, with DJ Ify on the decks,
playing the best in Nigerian Jams, RnB, Hip Hop and Old School
Classics
All this for the price of £10 (if wearing traditional attire £15 otherwise).
