A group of men said to be responsible for the brutal rape of a teenager last Thursday which caused the girl's mother to die from a stress-related illness are now in police custody.
The four men reportedly turned themselves in to the Linstead police in St Catherine on Saturday.
It was revealed the suspects are to face an identification parade.
According to the police, the pressure placed on the men caused them to turn themselves in.
Meanwhile, the police told The Star they have stepped up the patrols, raids and operations to deal with criminal acts.
The Star was informed that a man who figured prominently in an extortion racket in the area is now in custody facing several charges including murder.
"We are not going to allow criminals to take over the place, so we are taking the law to them," a police personnel said.
In the meantime, the police said the investigation relating to the rape was advanced with several statements collected.
The vicious attack has resulted in the death of the mother who was present during the onslaught.
Last Thursday night, the teenager was at home when four armed men kicked down a door, entered and raped her. Her mother who was a witness to the child's ordeal had to be taken to the hospital where she died.
