Luanda — The Angolan Government Wednesday in Luanda reaffirmed maintaining the relations of friendship, solidarity and cooperation with Guinea Bissau, on the basis of mutual respect, sovereignty equality, non-interference in internal affairs and reciprocal advantages substantiated in various accords signed.

In a statement on the cooperation with Guinea Bissau released in Luanda, the Angolan Government highlights the protocol for implementation of a techno-military cooperation programme resulting from MISSANG in Guinea Bissau territory.

According to the statement, the mission is meant for organisation, preparation and implementation of tasks and projects contained in the Angola-Guinea Bissau cooperation programme for the 2010-2012 period.

The programme makes provisions for the upgrading of Guinea Bissau to ensure levels of security and stability and thus contribute to its rebuilding and development within a stable political and democratic context.

Following the doubts arising over the last weeks from within the high ranks of the defence and security sector about the presence and objectives of the said cooperation programme, "the Government of the Republic of Angola is sad to inform the national and international public opinion that it has decided to put an end to the special programme of cooperation."

As a result, the Angolan Executive declares its decision to end the protocol on the implementation of a techno-military and security cooperation programme resulting therein and unilaterally withdraw the MISSANG from the territory of Guinea Bissau to Angola.

In the statement, the Angolan Government declares that in no time it wished to get involved, neither did it wished to be made involved in matters concerning the sovereign organs and institutions of the Republic of Guinea Bissa and the Guinean people alone.

"The Republic o f Angola will continue keeping the same level of excellent relations of friendship and cooperation with the Republic of Guinea Bissau, based on the historical and cultural proximity and a past of common struggle for the national liberation of the Guinean and Angolan peoples, by fully respecting the accords existing in other domains," says the Statement.

The Executive also declares its availability to contribute in a bilateral way and within a multilateral framework duely mandated by the international community to the security and stability towards the consolidation of the democratic and lawful state and to the economic and social development of the Republic of Guinea Bissau.
