Sokoto — The Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Mohammad Dahiru Abubakar, yesterday warned officers and men of the Nigerian police to desist from harassing Nigerians.
Addressing officers and men of the police force in Sokoto, he urged the police to be ready to key into his transformation agenda.
"You must be ready to change, if you don't change, we will change you because change is the only constant thing in life. You must not harass, you must be civil and you must not intimidate the citizenry in the course of discharging your constitutional duties of protecting the citizenry," he warned.
He said any officer or men of the police found wanting in the course of discharging his or her duties would be made to face the full wrath of law irrespective of the persons involved.
While warning policemen attached to politicians to desist from ridiculing themselves, the IGP also said, "You are asked to protect the VIPs and not to be doing menial jobs of carrying bags or portfolio for them.
