To look at todays armed forces you would never guess that in the last 3 hundred years there has been a continuous black Presence involved in defending these islands and her interests.
 

Black involvement in The American War of Independence

 
Here in this engraving by C.W Sharpe, we can see a black man spotting for a sharp shooter at the death of Admiral  Lord Nelson.
 
 
Here we see Chelsea pensioners recieving the news of the Victory at Waterloo, two of them are Black.
