CREATING THE FUTURE FOR MINORITY ETHNIC GRADUATES interested in a career in the Civil Service, is becoming easier. Creating the Future 2002 is a free two day exhibition. It offers; one on ones with recruitment staff, a discussion panel of senior civil servants sharing their experiences of working in the Civil Service, and seminars and workshops by government departments and agencies. Creating the Future 2002 plays a vital role in supporting government department's and agency's efforts to recruit increasing numbers of minority ethnic Britons into the Civil Service. As at the 1991 census, minority ethnic Britons made up approximately 5.6% of the population. The 2001 census will probably show that minority ethnic Brits account for around 10% of the total populations, an important and significant minority. In government departments and agencies, around 6% of civil servants are of minority ethnic origin. In senior management positions they make up only 2.4%. Against this background, the government is committed to increasing the ethnic diversity of civil service departments and agencies and is keen to bring in and develop talented people from a broader range of backgrounds. In this regard, minority ethnic Britons have a great deal to offer given the increasing levels of academic achievement and progress in UK industry and commerce. Exhibitors include the Crown Prosecution Service, the Department for Education and Skills, the Food Standards Agency, GCHQ, the Home Office and the Inland Revenue. CREATING THE FUTURE 2002 takes place on TUESDAY 16th JULY 5pm-8pm & WEDNESDAY 17th JULY 11am-8pm at CENTRAL HALL WESTMINSTER, Storey's Gate, SW1. We therefore particularly welcome applications from minority ethnic groups and women who are under-represented in HSE. However, more importantly, we want applications from individuals who genuinely appreciate and share our values. We are committed to maintaining the Investors in People standard and the development opportunities offered are wide rang-ing, including a significant investment in training. What does HSE do? Because we have such a diverse workforce and such a varied remit, HSE is organised into a number of Directorates and Divi-sions each with specific responsibilities. Others deal with specific industries such as railways, nuclear, offshore, construction and so on. HSE is a national organisation with offices throughout Great Britain.
