Quiz champions from Capital City Academy take on the challengers at the Black History Scholar road show

Event: Black History Scholar Quiz - Time: 9.45am - 10.45am  Venue: Capital City Academy, Willesden, NW10
Clever pupils from Capital City Academy, Willesden are defending their title as 'Black History scholar' quiz champions during a live history battle at 9.45am on Monday 22 January 2007. Presenter and comedian Eddie Nestor will host the event at the school. The quiz is part of the Black History Scholars competition, which is open to 11-15 year olds, from all backgrounds and aims to increase interest and understanding of black history, in a fun and accessible way.

Arts Council South West seeks Diversity Officer Print E-mail

Arts Council England, South West is recruiting for a Diversity Officer to work on a range of projects to help build Black Minority Ethnic audiences for the arts and to help bring the work of Black Minority Ethnic artists to a greater audience.

Arts Council England, South West Executive Director Nick Capaldi said:
'We currently support a number of organisations and projects which bring new cultural experiences to a range of audiences. We are also keen to make sure that audiences for arts events include people from a range of cultural backgrounds. This is one of the ways in which we are developing audiences so that as many people as possible can benefit from the art which we fund.'

Joanna Trollope has Second Honeymoon with union learners World-renowned author Joanna Trollope will today share her love of reading with hundreds of union learning reps at a conference organised by unionlearn with the Southern and Eastern TUC (SERTUC). Joanna will be speaking alongside TUC Deputy Secretary General Frances O'Grady, SERTUC unionlearn Regional Manager Barry Francis, and unionlearn Director Liz Smith. The conference will bring together over 300 union learning reps from the Southern and Eastern regions for their first unionlearn conference.

In the latest issue of Catalyst, Sadaf Meehan looks back at the events that sparked off the Birmingham riots in 2005.  Reflecting on her own experience as an Asian journalist working on black newspaper the Voice, Meehan offers a unique perspective on the issues surrounding and leading up to the riots in the area of Lozells, provoked by widespread allegations of the rape of a black girl by a group of Asian men.
