NIGHTCLUBS have found themselves under mounting pressure in the aftermath of a spate of shootings. The Ivory Arch in Elephant & Castle is the latest club to be closed by the authorities after an innocent bystander was hit in the head by a stray bullet after a gunman opened fire outside it on October 15.

COPS hunting a knife gang who stabbed a man in the back during a bungled robbery have released an e-fit of one attacker. The thug and his two accomplices confronted their 51-year-old victim out-side Burke House, in Hope Street, Battersea, and demanded money.

DETECTIVES believe the weapon used to kill Jamail Newton could have been a Mac10 - a machine pistol capable of firing more than 1,000 rounds a minute. Such weapons are notoriously difficult to control and detectives are exploring the possibility that Mr Newton was murdered at random when the machine gun was discharged indiscriminately in the street.

 Trident is launching a powerful advertising campaign today targeting 11 to 16 year olds in a bid to dissuade them from becoming the gunmen of the future. The campaign features a stark billboard advert depicting a dead man in a mortuary fridge with the hard-hitting and bleak message: "Carrying a gun can get you into the coolest places."Over 80 of the billboards went up over night in the six boroughs of London where gun crime is most prevalent within its black communities.
