The African British Information Technology Association (abITa) is dedicated to the effective use of IT. To promote develop and encourage the use of IT within the African British / Caribbean community in the UK and internationally. AbITa's strength will be the combined expertise of its diverse membership.
Training and Education
The Association will be working with its members to create a sustainable model of Information Society programmes for access, awareness. Raising, training, content production, research, partnership and planning. The mission of the Association is to ensure that every individual is equipped throughout life with the essential values, skills and opportunities to fully participate in creating the Information Society. By addressing educational and training needs. We aim to decrease the technological and information elitism from the African British / Caribbean community by means of certified training and educational courses.
Jobs and the Community
Facilitating community access to the IT Society through training allows individual and groups to use the technology for social purposes. However, it also creates a local skills-base, which can be harnessed by public and private sector alike for economic development purposes. We can improve local people's employability by developing much sought after skills. We will also assist in placing suitably qualified individuals in employment.
Impartial Advice,Information and Consultancy
The association members will have immediate access to unbiased, up-to-date information on all aspects of information technology and independent, Informed advice on the use of IT by different sectors of society. AbITa does not suggest Consultancy, if simple advice will do. However, if Consultancy is called for this can be provided at reduced rates to members. The abITa reputation is based upon strict impartiality, which is enforced by its membership committee.
Forewarning of Developments and Trends
Some of abITa members will have a significant and ever growing investment in information technology. Many participate in research and development. While predominantly a user organisation, the abITa membership includes many firms that serve the computing needs of the industry. The abITa acts as a bridge between these two groups. It alerts users to developments and research that may impact on their businesses and provides developers with information on society and industry requirements and trends.

The abITa provides a vehicle for member firms and individuals to compare their computing activities. We will encourage special Interest Groups to be started by members with the aim to bring together people with interests in a specific area of Information Technology. This we feel will be a very important area of activity of the Association, since it brings together people with like interests and enables them to share their experiences and knowledge.
Access To A National And International Network Of Expertise
The association members and firms will constitute a network of specialist expertise and experience. In addition, abITa participates in the activities in many other organisations. Regularly meeting and organising of seminars, and other events for the benefit of members. The abITa have members in many other countries and is part of an international federation of user association, which provide members with contacts. The abITa will belong to computing organisations such as the National Computing Centre, the British Computer Society, (I.T.N.T.O)- Information Technology National Training Organisation.

What ever their level of computing experience abITa members can draw reassurance from knowing that they can call upon the services of the association.

The association members can telephone or visit abITa to get specific information or advice, and abITa staff can arrange contacts between members where the experience of one is useful to another. Members can purchase a copy of the abITa Directory of members will be made available to members.

The abITa staff will seek information on behalf of members, or direct members to the best source of the information required. Enquires are treated in a strictly confidential manner.
