FOOTBALL star Rio Ferdinand has launched a national anti-knife campaign in memory of stab victim Damilola Taylor with the message, Let's Bring Peace To The Streets. Dami's dad Richard Taylor,London Mayor Ken Livingstone, and Met Chief Sir Ian Blair attended the event at City Hall yesterday. The Respect Your Life Not A Knife campaign aims to get two million young people to sign pledges not to carry weapons.

The event was launched on the sixth anniversary of Dami's fatal stabbing in Peckham. Manchester United and England defender Rio,who grew up in Peckham, said: "No more families should go through what Damilola Taylor's family went through.

"This is a time where we need to make sure it stops.

"We need to bring peace to the streets."

Secondary schools will be encouraged to get their pupils to support this initiative in memory of Dami. Mr Taylor said: "This morning I came from visiting my son's grave. "I can't think of any other parents having to lose their child.  "That is why I am here on such a painful day for me." Visit www.damilolataylortrust.org for more information.
