BURT WELCOMES BIG BROTHER SPONSORSHIP PULL |

Women and Equality Spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats Lorely Burt MP today welcomed the decision of Carphone Warehouse to suspend their sponsorship of celebrity big brother following allegations of racism towards Shilpa Shetty on the Channel 4 programme.
Commenting, Lorely Burt said,
“It is good to see Carphone warehouse taking the matter of racism very seriously, and I hope that Channel 4 will take the appropriate action to ensure that this does happen again.”
A record 30,000 people have made complaints to Ofcom over the alleged racist remarks.
“It is heartening to learn that so many people have been affronted by these remarks. While the Liberal Democrats believe strongly in freedom of speech, clearly this has touched a nerve, not only nationally but internationally.
Mrs Burt has signed EDM 639, sponsored by Keith Vaz MP calling on the programme to take urgent action to remind the housemates that racist behaviour is unacceptable.
