On the top floor of More London, Trevor Nelson was photographed as a businessman, for The Children’s Society’s ‘When I Grow Up’ photographic exhibition.
‘When I Grow Up’ is a unique exhibition that lets you sneak a peek for the first time ever into the childhood dreams of famous celebrities. Hosted by The Children's Society and photographed by award winning photographer David Chancellor, When I Grow Up is a free exhibition at The Hospital, Covent Garden, March 28-April 10 2007. When The Children’s Society asked Trevor Nelson what he wanted to be when he grew up he said, "I didn’t know quite what to do for a career, I probably wanted to be self employed. I wanted to be a businessman because I knew I had the gift of the gab." Celebrities featured in the exhibition include; Jamelia,Beverley Knight,Cheri Blair, Eric Sykes, Chris Tarrant, Dame Judi Dench, Irvine Welsh, Sadie Frost and Graham Norton. This is the first time any of the sitters have been asked this question and photographed like this. Their childhood dreams reveal a few surprises on what they really wanted to do. The images sit alongside four portraits of the children the charity works with photographed as themselves. This exhibition reminds us of the hopes, fears and dreams we hold as children and how our circumstance and environment helps shape those. All children need to be free to embrace opportunity and meet the best possible future regardless of their background. This exhibition invites the viewer to join The Children’s Society in standing by children, offering them the support they need and ensuring every chance for every child. The Children's Society is driven by the belief that every child deserves a good childhood. It provides vital help and understanding for those forgotten children who face the greatest danger, discrimination or disadvantage; children who are unable to find the support they need anywhere else. |
