POLICE have turned to the hugely popular video-sharing internet site YouTube in the hunt for the killers of Moss Side teenager Jessie James.
Officers have uploaded a tribute from the dead boy’s mother, Barbara Reid, and an appeal from his sister, Rosemary, in an attempt to encourage witnesses and people with information to come forward. Jessie, 15, was killed in a hail of bullets as he rode his bike in a park near Raby Street in the early hours of Saturday, September 9. Police said at the time he was “in the wrong place at the wrong time” and added that there was no intelligence suggesting he was linked to any of south Manchester’s gangs. The one-minute video on YouTube is the first time that Greater Manchester Police have used the website as part of an appeal. It is one of several initiatives being tried to prick the conscience of those who may have useful information. Posters Last week a poster campaign was launched with a picture of Jessie alongside the words: “Can you live with it? I can’t.” it was revealed last month how a website called “A Fallen Soldier” had been set up to record tributes to Jessie and was visited more than 7,000 times in less than a week. Some visitors suggested they knew the names of the killers. Police said at the time they were “aware” of the site. YouTube is an internet phenomenon, allowing users to create and share video clips from around the world. It is one of the fastest-growing websites in the world, with an estimated 100 million clips viewed daily. The site is currently thought to be subject to a £1bn takeover bid by search engine giant Google.
