NHSPeople from a diverse range of backgrounds are being encouraged to have their say about the local NHS by joining a new forum to give feedback about health services in the area.

The forum  called Our Voice - is specifically aimed at involving people from minority ethnic groups in developing health services to meet their needs.  Recruitment to the group will begin this weekend at the Newcastle Mela.
Members of the group will have the opportunity to say how they feel about
the local NHS  particularly if they have ideas about how things could be
improved. This will help to make sure healthcare and treatment is available
in the right place, at the right time and is provided in the best way to meet the needs of users from minority ethnic backgrounds.
Matthew James, from the strategic health authority says people from a range of backgrounds are encouraged to join the group and make their voices heard.

"As far as we know this initiative is unique and is the first strategic health authority-wide forum to consult with minority ethnic communities about health services.

"We want to hear from men and women from all across the Northumberland and Tyne & Wear area.  People from all age groups and different backgrounds, people with disabilities; different ethnic groups, religions and faiths; couples, single people and parents and people with different educational and work backgrounds."

"We would particularly like to hear from frequent users of health services or their carers, community workers or people involved in community or neighbourhood groups and members of NHS patient and user groups."

The Our Voice forum is funded by all NHS organisations across Northumberland and Tyne & Wear.  Members are being recruited now and anyone interested in joining should contact Trescom on 01274 201871 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
