The capital is gearing up for Notting Hill Carnival, one of the key events in London's calendar, which is eagerly anticipated by Londoners, as well as visitors to the city.
London Mayor Ken Livingstone said: 'This year's Notting Hill Carnival will be another opportunity for Londoners to come together in unity and to show their enjoyment of London's diversity and rich cultural heritage.
'I remain committed to the Carnival's continued success as a safe and enjoyable event and, as in previous years, my office will be supporting the stewarding operation. As part of the overall celebrations, there will also be the Caribbean Showcase in Hyde Park, which has been organised to complement the main activities in Notting Hill. It is particularly aimed at families and others who want to be part of the weekend's Carnival celebrations and experience the diversity of London's Caribbean culture.
'Whatever you do, remember that there are a few sensible precautions you should take to make it safer and more enjoyable. This includes leaving valuables at home, planning your journey well in advance, using public transport and travelling light. For everyone attending this weekend's Carnival celebrations, whether the Caribbean Showcase in Hyde Park, or the main event In Notting Hill, have a great time.'
