PROTESTERS took to the streets at the weekend to send a defiant message to gunmen who claim young lives - "enough is enough". Saturday's crowds marched in memory of murdered Matthew Smith, 21, 20-year-old Jordan Jackson and Leyla Djemal-Northcott, 21.
Youngsters unfurled banners demanding an end to the carnage of gun crime.
And campaigners laid flowers at the spot near the junction of Ellison Road and Colmer Road, Streatham, where tragic Matthew was allegedly shot down dead for a mobile phone on January 9.
His father, Stanley Smith, joined them, as did Leroy Jackson, whose nephew Jordan Jackson was gunned down along with his girlfriend Leyla Djemal-Northcott when masked assassins stormed their flat in Menlo Gardens, Norwood, on March 7.
Others included Brixtonbased reggae producer Blacker Dread, whose 24-year-old son Solomon Martin was found shot dead on New Year's Eve, 2004, and Olivia Sams, mum of murdered Andrew Sams, 25.
Mr Jackson, whose youth group Save our Souls organised the march from Beulah Hill to Norwood Hall, said: "No family should be feeling like the Smith and Jackson family - and many other families are feeling right now - because a bullet has taken their loved ones from them.
"Enough is enough. It's time to stand up and be counted."
Save Our Souls is seeking donations to bolster its campaign to steer kids away from gangster culture and gun crime. Call organisers on 07956 968 341, 07946 809 049 or 07956 854 503.
