A WOMAN was snatched from a bus stop in Manchester city centre and raped. The 22-year-old was attacked after a blue car pulled up at a bus stop in Princess Street, just after 2am on Saturday. A man who had stood talking to the woman dragged her into the vehicle, which was driven around for about 10 minutes by a second man. The first man then climbed into the back of the car with her and raped her.

The woman was let out of the car near a pub, either in Salford or Manchester city centre, and managed to wave down a black cab at about 3am. She asked the driver to take her to Wythenshawe, but told him she had only £10. He said he could take her to the city centre and dropped her off at the bottom of Princess Street, just yards from where she had been grabbed.

Police are still trying to establish if she told the driver she had been attacked, but said it appeared unlikely.

'Terrifying attack'

Det Con Fabian Lord, from Bootle Street CID, said: "This was a terrifying attack and we are doing everything possible to trace those responsible.

"If you are the taxi driver I'd appeal to you to contact us.

"We are treating this as an isolated incident, but would remind people to try to stay in groups when on nights out."

Police said the man who carried out the attack was black, while the driver of the car was white.

Anyone with information about the attack should contact Bootle Street CID on 0161 856 8331 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
