A young man lay dying in a dark alleyway outside the Ravensthorpe bar, packed with 200 Christmas revellers. And a court heard that he was gunned down by a gang of Huddersfield men who had initially clashed with him in the bar. The men have gone on trial at Leeds Crown Court charged with the murder of 23-year-old Michael Hanley. Mr Hanley, of Harehills, Leeds, was one of the people enjoying the soul night at Sheridan's Bar in a former mill complex in Ravensthorpe in December 2005. He was asked to leave after club staff intervened when he and a group of men were involved in a scuffle.

The court was told Mr Hanley was accused of bumping into a man in the crowded club.

But as he tried to leave, he was shot once in the stomach, leaving him fatally wounded.

Jamie Hislop, 22, of Sheepridge, his brother Shane Thomas, 23, of Longroyd Bridge, and Darren Foley, 19, of Dalton, all deny the murder of Mr Hanley who was a sinle man.

They have also denied conspiring to pervert the course of justice as has a fourth man, Igor Simic, 21, of Berry Brow.

He was alleged to have been asked to threaten witnesses involved in the case.

The prosecution claimed that much of the tragedy was captured on CCTV cameras.
