A GANG of up to 20 men are being sought by police following a robbery at a Redditch chip shop. The gang walked into the Fisherman's Catch chip shop in Bates Hill just before 6.30pm on Monday January 8, jumped the counter and stole the till.

They escaped with an unconfirmed amount of cash, along with a mobile phone belonging to a member of staff and ran off towards the town centre.

The offenders are described as Asian males wearing hooded tops. One of them was carrying what has been described as a metal bar.

Detective Sergeant Mark O'Connor from North Worcestershire CID said: "Staff at the chip shop are understandably shocked by their ordeal although fortunately no one was injured.

"We understand there were between 10 and 20 men in the group and we are appealing to anyone who was in the Bates Hill or Unicorn Hill area early evening on Monday to get in touch if they recall seeing such a group.

"There was also an assault outside the chip shop just after 4pm and we are looking into whether these incidents are linked."

Anyone with information about either incident is urged to call police on 08457 444 888.
