Revd Beverley Theodore, a Barrister by profession, has recently been appointed as Development Manager at the Council of Black Led Churches (CBLC) in Birmingham.  Revd Theodore, former Chaplain at Yarl'swood Immigration Removal Centre said of the appointment: "I am looking forward to the opportunity of developing the strategic work of the CBLC.  I will endeavour to ensure that CBLC continues to be a positive influence within Black Led Churches, local communities, and Birmingham as a whole".

The Council of Black Led Churches has been established since the 1980s and has become an effective social, political and spiritual influence in the city and beyond.  It has been deeply involved in work to bring about and maintain community cohesion, especially during recent disturbances.  Two years ago in partnership Birmingham Churches Together, Bringing Hope was established to lead the churches response to the presence of gangs, drugs, and guns in the city.  CBLC has taken a keen interest in young people, particularly in educational attainment.  In addition to sponsoring education forums, CBLC has recently sponsored forums dealing with Mental Health and Sexual Health.  Future plans include the launch of a citywide prayer initiative.

Commenting upon the new appointment, Bishop Dr Joe Aldred, Chair of the CBLC said: "Beverley is a talented individual and we are privileged to have her working with us to give CBLC's spiritual and social justice agenda greater focus, impetus and visibility".
