New Cross shooting a 'warning' |

COPS believe a gunman who opened fire just yards from a school which was about to empty was handing out a terrifying "warning". The man, who has not been arrested, targetted a family he is thought to have made death threats to already. But he chose to attack just minutes before kids at Monson Primary in New Cross were due to go home. Teachers had to evacuate the school and escort parents and kids away from the scene. According to police, the gunman had already made a series of threats to the Wignalls, who live in the Camplin Street house.
DI Hunter, of Operation Trident, confirmed officers have also ruled out the possibility that the gunman had deliberately shot at a picture of Haile Selassie. Both shots pierced the print of the spiritual leader of the Rastafari movement and hit an inside wall in the living room. Since the incident the Wignalls have been so scared they have left their home and additional security has been put up to protect it. Shocked parents saw two hooded men running away from the scene in Camplin Street on Friday. Witnesses described the gunman as aged between 19 and 20 and wearing a beige jacket. The other man was seen wearing a dark jacket. Anyone with information should call Operation Trident on 020 7326 1212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. |
