In 2005 the Healthcare Commission, the Mental Health Act Commission and the National Institute for Mental Health in England collaborated on the fi rst national census of inpatients in mental health facilities. It collected details of ethnicity, language and religion, as well as information about how inpatients came to be in hospital and details about their care. click here to view full information
One of the most shocking findings of the census was that women from Black and Black/White groups are twice as likely to be referred to mental health services than women from other ethnic groups. This conference seeks to ‘unpack’ this statistic, exploring the issues which fuel this disparity. Please see the attached pdf flyer/booking form for the next Diverse Minds Conference 'An Uncomfortable Truth - overrepresentation of BME women within the Mental Health system. This conference is inspired by the findings of the 2005 Count Me In Census which reflected the magnitude of overreprentation. click here to view full information The conference takes place on the 29 November at Kings Fund in Central London.
