We are getting ready to launch a brand new greetings card company and are seeking freinds and submissions from talented amateur photographers and artists. We will be making cards for just about every occasion, ‘new baby’ ‘birthdays’ ‘fathers day’ ‘christmas’ ‘weddings’ ‘congratulations’ for example. Our cards will be modern and diverse, appealing to people of colour who want to send a card to a friend or family member that reflects them in our multicultural society. UK-based international charity PhotoVoice has been running photographic training workshops with blind and visually impaired members of the Afro Caribbean community in South London, introducing them to Sensory Photography techniques that allow them to create and experience photographs in order to communicate their thoughts and experiences with others. This project has culminated in advocacy campaigns led by members of the group trained in photogrpahy, and using their photos to carry messages that are important to them to those who can make a difference. One campaign is aimed at those of African and Caribbean origin, who may not realise that they are much more likely to develop glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy than other demographics. Early treatment can prevent these conditions taking your sight. Don’t wait for symptoms and don’t ignore early warning signs. Get your eyes checked at least once a year.
