What do you get if you cross 'You Tube' with satellite TV? The answer is Fame TV ( http://www.fametv.com ), the UK's first TV channel to broadcast 100% user created video clips, photographs and original music tracks. Operated by UK-based media company, Fame TV Ltd, the channel launches this week on digital satellite channel 217.

Fame TV will rely entirely on members of the public for its programming content. Thanks to the channel, viewers will be able to create their own 15 minutes of fame by uploading video clips, pictures and texts via the website, www.fametv.com, and mobile phones. Broadcasting will take place all year round, 24/7, and will be available to SKY customers in the UK and Ireland.

Fame TV aims to broadcast all content submissions live on air within 15 minutes of receiving them. Each viewer will have their own signature tag that appears on screen every time they interact by internet or mobile, so they can build their own broadcast community and be in touch with others while watching the channel.

John Hayes, head of development at Fame TV, says: "We are moving into a new era of television where user generated content and viewer interaction are key to the programming. The mobile phone will become the new remote control and we?re expecting to generate a vast library of diverse content, courtesy of the British public."

The concept is similar to the current You Tube online venture, where users broadcast their own content, and will provide viewers with a platform for communicating with friends and promoting themselves. Aspiring actors, comedians, models and unsigned bands will be able to showcase their talents and launch their careers on national TV in an instant.

Meanwhile, secondary schools across the UK are currently taking part in the Fame TV logo design competition. Pupils have the chance to let their artistic flair loose and devise a suitable logo for the new channel. The closing date for the competition is 30 November, 2006. From 1 December, all submitted logos will be showcased on www.fametv.com so registered viewers can vote for their favourite design. The logo that attracts the most votes will represent the channel from then on.

John Hayes explains: "Fame TV is dedicated to giving the viewer the choice of what to watch. With that in mind, we're letting the public decide on the winning logo design from our schools competition.?
