Remembering a time when African Queens ruled AfricaPosted by Brother of Africans in Untagged |
Uhuru Blackhistorystudies!
This is great stuff and I wish more people would look into African history and they would realise that prior to the invasion by the white European Christians, Africa had its own empires and kingdoms along with a history to be proud of. I would urge everyone to take advantage of these courses and become aware of Africa's great empires and kingdoms. Take for example the powerful (yes! powerful) West African kingdom of Ghana prospered from its gold trade by taxing the traders when gold and salt passed through the kingdom on trade routes; Arab writers later called Ghana “the land of gold” because of its great wealth; the Ghana Empire increased its wealth through its gold trade with the Muslim North Africa and other smaller cultures grew up such as at Igbo-Ukwu. The Arab writer Al Yakubi described the king of Ghana as “The king of Ghana is a great king. In his territory are mines of gold, and under him a number of kingdoms, among them the kingdom of Sugham, and the kingdom of Sama. In all this country there is gold”. Indeed, the kingdom of Ghana was so rich that the dogs in the king’s palace wore collars made out of gold! The Kingdom's wealth, strong army and well run government allowed it to last more than 500 years. Similarly, people do not know that the city of Timbuktu, on the Niger River, was a centre of learning or indeed that the subsequent wealthy empires of Songhai and Benin dominated the area. The Songhai Empire grew up around the city of Gao in the 14th century AD. It expanded rapidly under the Muslim ruler Askia Muhammad (known as Askia the Great) from the late 15th century. These examples show the great history of Africa and a history to be proud of … that is until … the invasion of the white European Christians. I would reiterate once again to take advantage of these informative and no doubt enlightening courses that are being offered. Well done Blackhistroystudies! Brother of Africans

Remembering a time when African Queens ruled by Robin WalkerPosted by blackhistorystudies in Untagged |
Ancient Egypt is the most controversial part of Black History. Most historians continue to place Egypt alongside the civilisations of the Middle East to the virtual exclusion of its African origin. The key fact here is that the modern Arab nation of Egypt was born in 639 AD when the Arabians invaded and occupied Egypt (and the rest of North Africa) for the very first time. Ancient Egypt is what the Africans built before the Arabians got there.
What follows here is a history of some of that ancient African achievement.

Short Course- Transatlantic Enslavement: What really happened?Posted by blackhistorystudies in Untagged |
Transatlantic Enslavement: What really happened? is a fascinating five week short course starting Wednesday 11th August 2010 until Wednesday 8th September 2010.
Were Africans primarily to blame for the Slave Trade? When the African American academic, Henry Louis Gates, made this outrageous allegation a few weeks ago, everybody got upset but NO-ONE could answer him point-for-point (You can read his article http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/23/opinion/23gates.html).
That is, UNTIL NOW!

Do you Help Others?Posted by Natural and Happy in Untagged |
We wake up everyday and go about our routines. Do you try and say a kind word to someone or help them in some way? Most will say yes. I have met so many wonderful people who are doing great things, not for themselves, but for others. They don't toot their own horns or have advertisements posted up everywhere, but if you stop and read their profile information, you'll see that these are the people who you should be connected with.
I met Tiffiany who has Help Moms Stop The Murders. She has a social network that helps families who have been hit by violence. She is focused on stopping all aspects of violence.

Glastonbury 2010 - Why I need to go in the futurePosted by mariama tushemeriirwe in Untagged |
10th July
Watching highlights of Glastonbury 2010 on BBC iplayer and wishing I could attend but only as a performer of course ( one day my dreams will come true, maybe performing as a static trapeze artist) enjoyed seeing Steve Wonder and really like Muse and Kele, Kele really takes me back to my happy hard core days, but with a new twist. I like ‘On the Lam’ in particular.
