Light House Cinema will host the Black Filmmaker International Film Festival from Fri 6 Oct – Sun 8 Oct, bringing an insightful line-up of films guaranteed to keep movie-goers entertained. The festival will take audiences on a tour of Black World Cinema. Highlights will include Midlands Premieres of Letter to the President, a feature-length documentary about the roots of hip-hop and rap music, and hit comedy Diary of a Mad Black Woman written by Tyler Perry and starring Kimberley Elise.

 

The festival will kick off at 7.30pm on Fri 6 Oct with a pre-festival drinks reception in Lock Works bar. Throughout the weekend screenings will include features and documentaries to take audiences on a tour from Black World Cinema, aspects of Afro-Brazilian and Latin culture and African storytelling to the musical expression of Hip-Hop and Reggae. The festival will feature exclusive question and answer sessions with directors following some screenings.

There will be a UK Talent shorts programme that will showcase the dynamic work of emerging regional black UK filmmakers. Festival organiser Pauline Bailey said, “This is an exciting screening where the audience casts their vote for the best bfm short film of 2006. This year’s selection tackles a range of issues that reflect contemporary life. From thought provoking to light comedy the screening will keep you entertained, challenged and on the edge of your seats!”The short film Cathy and I by Director Ekta Walia, which was produced at Light House, is one of the 8 nominated films to be screened as part of this programme. The award winners, voted for by audiences at other venues of the festival, will be announced at Light House on Sun 8 Oct at 6.30pm.
