Try a new hobby this autumn

Looking for a new hobby this autumn that won't break the bank? Modern (Western) square dancing could be just the thing for you. This updated version of traditional dances from a range of countries is a great way to keep fit and make new friends. There are hundreds of clubs in Europe alone and it's always called in English.

Clubs are run on a voluntary basis and meet weekly. Lessons will take you through a set syllabus taught in around 30 countries. The basic training leads to Mainstream level, at which point you can join in square dance events anywhere in the world. Modern square dancing is suitable for anyone from teenage upwards and requires no special clothing, just soft shoes (jazz ballet shoes or Grecian sandals are ideal). Lessons cost around £3 per week including refreshments. Once you've reached Mainstream level there's lots of events to join in, from local or regional Friendship dances where lots of clubs get together, to camp-outs and conventions.
