Latest Opinion polls shows Conservatives lagging behind in picking up votes from the Black Community. The question is why? Is this because many people from the Black Community still see the Conservative Party as an elite party (Not for us) or maybe because Labour is what they have always voted for on the other hand  you have the Liberal Democrates  gaining tremendous pace on the  main 2 parties however, are people clear on Liberal policies?  or is the black community voting simply for change...
What's your opinion? Let's see who you'll be voting for come 6 May 2010 UK General Election, you can post and view votes by click here

Black history lesson could save our kids from knives and guns, says actor and rapper Ashley Walters

Posted by Kennedy in Untagged

Kennedy

Rapper Ashley Walters believes Black History Lesson could help the youth of today

Ashley Walters: Until recently I knew very little about my family's history. My grandfather came over from Jamaica in the 50s while my grandmother came from what was then British Guiana.

They didn't really talk about it much. To be honest, I didn't take much of an interest either. I regarded myself as English, not West Indian.

What I know now is that making a new life for themselves here in the UK was very hard for them. Like so many people from the Caribbean they had both been brought up in a very English way. When they were growing up they were still part of the British Empire. They believed in the Queen, in authority and the church.

Kennedy

According to an article in the Metro newspaper today, nearly half of young black people don't have a job. Unemployment among black people aged between 16 to 24 was well over twice the 20% per cent rate of unemployment among white people, revealed the institute for Public Policy Research.  Co-director Lisa Harker said the figures were 'worrying' as young people from ethnic minorities were 'more likely to become part of a generation lost to unemployment.

Hmmm, very interesting...

A Friendship That Defied The Odds

(November 2009) She may have been famous for her music and her looks, but Marilyn Monroe was much more than a blonde bombshell.

Way ahead of her time, Marilyn took a dramatic stand against racism in 1950s America by befriending the black singer Ella Fitzgerald, at a time when black music and black singers weren’t welcome on the mainstream theatre and club stages. It’s a friendship, and an aspect of Marilyn’s character, that’s rarely touched on in the press.
