Do you have a connection to the Commonwealth Of Dominica?

Posted by DianeCorriette in Untagged

DianeCorriette

Two years ago I decided to start a network because I wanted more of a connection to Commonwealth of Dominica. Growing up I wasn't really exposed to the culture/heritage part of my ancestory so rather than wonder I did the one thing I know I am good at -  I used the internet.

Two years later and with over 8,000 members Dominica Diaspora is a great social network if you are from there, have family love there or for people who have visited and love there!

The last time I was in Dominica was in the 70s I was 14 and hurricane David had ripped through and devasted the whole island. My mum went to make sure my grandmother was okay and took me with her - it was how I discovered that boys were good for more than just playing cricket! Finally, in 2010 I am returning and doing my best to get in shape so I can climb mountains and hike while I am there.

Posted by DianeCorriette in Untagged

DianeCorriette

At the beginning of the year a friend asked me if I was going to write out 50 things to do in 2010 and I have finally finished - its amazing how finding 50 fun things to do can be so difficult, that must be a reflection of my work based life!!!!

Anyway,  I won't bore you with the whole 50 but here's ten

1. Swim naked in the Caribbean sea (night time of course!) LOL

Young people making a difference

Posted by DianeCorriette in Untagged

DianeCorriette

This year my daughter and 11 other young people went to Vermont to spend a week in a camp with kids from USA and Iraq.

It was a magical experience for them and they spent time talking about diversity and breaking down stereotypes. I wrote a blog post about it here and would love to collect a few words of wisdom/messages of support for them.... I just need someone to be the first!

Its never too late to make your dreams come true

DianeCorriette

It is my absolute belief that it is never too late to make your dreams come true.

Your dream doesn't have to be about money either - in fact when your focus is on getting rich it doesn't always happen.

But I believe when you help enough people get what they want you too will get what you want (to quote Zig Ziglar) and so my desire is to help people over 40 get what they want in their life.

Why is it so much easier to believe the negative things people say?

Posted by DianeCorriette in Untagged

DianeCorriette

Growing up I would always find it easier to believe the negative things people said about me rather than focus on anything positive.

I guess as a child you take everything literally and its not until you become an adult that it changes.

I believed I shouldn't speak unless I was spoken to and so that's what I did, but who wants to speak to someone who never says anything!!!

Who do you use for inspiration?

Posted by DianeCorriette in Untagged

In order to excel we need to surround ourself with tools that will support us. Hanging around with negative people when you want to achieve a goal can bring you down, especially if they are always talking about why your idea won't work. So it is important we spend time around people who uplift us and who are already where we want to be.

If that isn't possible right now the easiest thing to do is to condition your mind by listening to experts in your field.

If you want to be a world class golfer you need to watch Tiger Woods and all the other greats. What they do, how they do it, how they train - you need to eat, sleep and visualise the experts and their advice.

I would love to have an African name

Posted by DianeCorriette in Untagged

DianeCorriette

I would love to have an African name that means something uplifting or inspirational.

I like the name Sarabi which means mirage but am not sure if the word mirage evokes upliftment, I saw it as possibly negative myself because a mirage isn't real, its a projection of an image that isn't there!

Any thoughts of great African names for women? The internet hasn't really helped, I can't find a great site with African names and their translations.

I am excited about my Black History Month event in October

I am really excited about running my first ever live offline workshop in London. I have run teleseminars/teleconferences and webinars with people all over the world but I am always in the comfortable of my own home!

Rather than shake in my boots and go it alone I decided to join forces with two other amazing motivational speakers and we are all going to run a motivational event with a difference. Not one that leaves you motivated but has you back to your normal self in a day or two, but instead one that focuses on you taking action and declaring your intentions. We are going to leave you with STEPS TO TAKE so you go home and start taking action. Plus we have other ways we intend to keep you on track.

There is something quite powerful about standing up and declaring what you intend to happen to the universe and the people in the room. When you share your intention out loud you never know who else in the room might be able to help you make it happen, you never know who else in the room might want to partner with you and you never know who else in the room might know someone who knows someone who can help you!
